We offer thirty days of pet health Insurance
Because Maine Coon kittens are living creatures, we cannot control every health aspect. Even though we try our best and start with the best parents. But sometimes “stuff” happens. So we offer our families peace of mind by providing 30 days of health insurance for their kitten. This will help with any unforeseen issues that may pop up. You may continue this insurance after the first year, at your expense. We e
We start with a solid foundation our breeding stock must pass health testing
We health test the parents of all our kittens. We start with genetic DNA testing. This will allow us to spot the genes for the most common diseases in Maine Coon kittens. In addition, we also perform echocardiograms on the hearts of all our parents. We have also begun getting X-Rays on our cats for hip dysplasia.
Things to Keep in Mind
We only cover what we can test for
While we do our part to ensure we are breeding as healthy cats as possible, there are some things we cannot control or test for. There are issues that Maine Coons are predisposed to, but that we cannot test for. If we can’t test for it and have no way to know which kittens will have an issue, we can’t guarantee them. For example, periodontal disease. Maine Coons are prone to gingivitis, especially as at a young age. (Known as juvenile gingivitis.) We cannot control who gets this and who doesn’t. So it is not covered by our health warranty. This is why health insurance is so helpful in these situations. So we will do our part to provide healthy kittens and we expect our families do their part to keep the kitten as healthy as possible.
Another illness all cats are susceptible to is possibly FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). This is an absolutely cruel and heartbreaking disease. There is much research ongoing surrounding this disease and there is hopeful treatment to this otherwise fatal disease. But because we cannot specifically test parents and/or kittens for it, we cannot guarantee your kitten will never get it. We do our absolute best to prevent it such as keeping kitten litters separate from all other cats and cleaning litter boxes frequently. But there is no way to know which cat will be affected and which one won’t. But do know this, if your kitten passes away from FIP within seven years, we will replace the kitten.**
Owner Responsibilities
As the owner of your Maine Coon kitten you will need to ensure your kitten stays up to date on vaccinations and sees the vet regularly. We require you to have your kitten examined by a veterinarian within 72 hours of going home. We have the kitten examined by our veterinarian before he/she leaves. If you also have your kitten examined, we have a base foundation for the health of your kitten and no question as to the health of your kitten when he/she arrives to your home. We also require at least annual examinations to make sure everything is going well for your cat. If there are health concerns or your kitten is not acting well at any time, we require you to visit your vet within a reasonable time for the situation.
We do not cover accidents or preventable diseases such as feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus. We also do not cover ingestion of foreign objects such as hair ties, fiber, or anything else your kitten or cat could possibly swallow.
But you will want to keep health insurance on your kitten to cover any of these unforeseen issues that may arise.
