Every so often, a male becomes available who represents something particularly difficult to find in a breeding program. Odin is one of those boys.
Born January 12, 2024, Odin is our beautiful, well-proven cream smoke male and a much-loved member of Brushy Kreek Cattery. He has already proven himself within our program, and with his striking coloring, wonderful presence and established health testing, he offers another breeding program the opportunity to add a mature male without starting at square one and waiting to see what a kitten may become.
Most importantly, Odin has excellent hips. For breeders who understand just how valuable a genuinely good hip result is in a Maine Coon breeding program, that alone makes a boy like Odin difficult to replace. His echocardiogram has been completed, his DNA panel is in hand, and he is TICA registered. He is also already proven, taking away much of the waiting and uncertainty that comes with bringing in a young prospect.
Finding a mature, proven male with this level of testing available to another breeding program simply doesn’t happen every day. Add in the expense and uncertainty that can come with importing new bloodlines, international transportation and then waiting for future hip, cardiac and fertility results, and the value of a boy who already has so many of those answers becomes very apparent.
Odin isn’t leaving Brushy Kreek because we wanted to part with him. Quite the opposite. He has been a valued and much-loved part of our cattery, but as our program moves forward, we need to outcross our bloodlines, and that means it is time for Odin to begin the next chapter of his story.
Named for a king of the Norse gods, it seems only fitting that Odin isn’t simply looking for a new home — he’s looking for a new realm to reign over. ❤️
